Lake Martin, located in the heart of

Lake Martin is a family-oriented community with many activities
geared in that direction - starting with education. The
Alexander City School
System is one of the best in the
state and Central Alabama
Community College has a campus
in both Alexander
City and Childersburg. From there, many students will attend
one of the many accredited colleges in the state including
Auburn University, University of Alabama, Troy State or
Birmingham Southern - all within driving distance of Lake
Martin.
Cost of Living
The cost of living is below the national average with the
tax per capita lowest in the nation. Taxes in Tallapoosa
and Elmore counties are some of the lowest in the nation.
Homes in both counties are assessed at 10 percent of its
value and vehicles at 15. Ad valorem tax millages for the
two largest towns in Tallapoosa County are 37.5 mills for
Alexander City and 35.0 mills for Dadeville. The millage
for Elmore County is 22.0. Sales tax in Alexander City
is 8.5 percent and 5 percent in the rest of the county.
Elmore County sales tax starts at 8.5 percent and varies
from town to town.
Climate
Another reason folks flock to Lake Martin is the climate.
The temperature is warm enough to enjoy the lake year-round. The summer
months can be hot in Central Alabama, but with so many
water activities to choose from, most people don't mind.
The coldest month is January, but the lows rarely drop
below freezing. Alabama's yearly average rainfall is 55
inches - accounting for the state's beautiful landscapes
and abundant wildlife.

Commerce around Lake Martin is varied - from various industries,
unique retail shops to lake tourism and recreation. Chamber
of commerce's from around the area work together and with
other businesses and organizations to further grow incoming
